The KCRCO is hiring for a part/time (20hr) grant funded Peer Support Specialist with a start date of February 1st, 2022. This is really exciting for us to announce as we begin looking for who will be our very first KCRCO Peer Support Specialist.

KCRCO Peer Support Specialist Job Description:  The Peer Specialist assists and guides peers toward resources to aid in recovery. Work performed will promote community socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, self-help, etc. 

KCRCO Peer Support Specialist Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Person in recovery from a substance use disorder

  • Willingness to learn/attend training on how to support all paths to recovery

  • Ability to listen and guide people in recovery to needed resources in community

  • Willingness to learn about and attend trainings on resources in community for people in recovery

  • Ability to take direction and learn new skills to ensure mission of KCRCO

  • Education/experience working with volunteers (preferred 6 months experience)

Major duties/responsibilities: The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the Kittitas County Recovery Community Organization (KCRCO) and provides peer support services to clients seeking direction/information/resources/community regarding recovery from substance use disorder. Under supervision of the Program Manager the Peer Support Specialist will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as an advocate, present a wide range of information in regard to recovery and peer support groups. Peer Support Specialist perform a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, from young adult to old age, in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. Recovery resources such as booklets/pamphlets, written materials will be utilized by the Peer Specialist in the provision of services. Peer Support Specialist will also assist the Program Manager with tasks assigned to include building maintenance, volunteer support, and other office duties as assigned.

Job Duties Of Peer Support Specialist: 

  • Assist Peers in locating and joining existing groups. 

  • Knowledge of Substance Use Disorders and the recovery process.

  • Use non-stigmatizing person-centered language while working at the KCRCO 

  • Accepting and promote multiple paths to maintain recovery

  • Assist in obtaining services that suit that individual’s recovery needs by providing names of staff, community resources and groups that may be useful. Inform clients about community and natural supports and how to use these in the recovery process. organizations, apartment complexes and other types of housing, etc. 

  • Assist with social media and publicity 

  • Able to execute basic office chores

  • Basic problem-solving skills

  • Assist with building management- keep facility tidy and organized. 

  • Assist with e-mail/social media updates

  • Assist peers in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy. 

The Peer Support Specialist must be willing to attend seminars, educational opportunities and training dates when offered by the KCRCO.
